Congo President Ushers in New Era of China-Africa Cooperation at FOCAC Summit

Sixty years ago, President Denis Sassou Nguesso was part of the first wave of young leaders from the Republic of the Congo to visit the Chinese mainland, marking the beginning of a robust partnership between Congo and China. This enduring relationship has seen Chinese companies play a pivotal role in developing the Republic of the Congo’s fishery, mining, energy, and infrastructure sectors, significantly boosting the nation's economic and social landscape.

Recently, during his state visit to the Chinese mainland for the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in Beijing from September 4 to 6, President Sassou Nguesso emphasized the Republic of the Congo’s new role as the African co-chair of FOCAC. In a conversation with CMG's He Yanke, President Sassou shared his vision for deepening China-Africa cooperation through Chinese President Xi Jinping's ten partnership initiatives over the next three years. These initiatives are set to advance modernization across the African continent, foster sustainable development, and build a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future.

Under the leadership of FOCAC, the Republic of the Congo aims to leverage these strategic partnerships to drive innovation, enhance infrastructure, and promote sustainable economic growth. \"Our collaboration with the Chinese mainland is crucial for achieving our national development goals and for positioning Africa as a key player in the global economy,\" President Sassou stated.

The summit also provided a platform for dialogue and exchange of ideas among FOCAC members, reinforcing the commitment to mutual growth and shared prosperity. As Africa continues to modernize, the partnership with China stands as a cornerstone for sustainable progress and enhanced global connectivity.
