China’s Role in Revitalizing Global Multilateralism

As the world celebrates China's impressive achievements on its 75th anniversary, discussions are emerging about the nation's potential to rejuvenate multilateralism on the global stage.

Clare Daly, a former member of the European Parliament, expressed optimism about China's future policies. She emphasized the importance of China continuing to advocate for multilateralism and doing so with greater vocal presence.

Daly highlighted a current vacuum in international leadership and suggested that China could play a pivotal role in filling this gap by strengthening international organizations. She noted that many of these organizations have been weakened, creating a dangerous void that needs to be addressed by returning to the foundational principles of the United Nations.

She also pointed to the developments within BRICS countries as a positive step towards creating alternatives to existing global financial systems dominated by the U.S. dollar. Daly believes that fostering an alternative global currency and enhancing economic cooperation structures could provide countries with more autonomy and resilience.

Furthermore, Daly praised China's approach to international cooperation, especially in regions like South America and Africa. She observed that China's investments have been beneficial to the citizens of these countries, fostering mutually advantageous relationships compared to others that pursue self-interested agendas.

Looking ahead, Daly envisions a coordinated effort to revamp the United Nations and rejuvenate international law, with China playing a significant role in these initiatives. She believes that such efforts are crucial for addressing the challenges humanity faces today and for ensuring a more cooperative and sustainable global future.
