The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) celebrated its 75th founding anniversary on September 20 in Beijing, marking decades of pivotal contributions to China's political and social landscape.
During the anniversary meeting, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the CPPCC's role as an innovative political system that includes political parties, prominent individuals without party affiliation, people’s organizations, and diverse groups under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC). He highlighted how the CPPCC has been instrumental from the founding of the People’s Republic of China to the ongoing socialist revolution, construction, and reform efforts.
Since its first plenary session in September 1949, the CPPCC has been a key player in establishing a united front and fostering multi-party cooperation and political consultation under CPC leadership. Its efforts have supported major government initiatives such as land reforms, economic restoration, and the consolidation of socialist institutions.
Over the years, the CPPCC has continued to adapt and contribute to China’s development. Following the third plenary session of the 11th CPC Central Committee in 1978, the CPPCC played a significant role in maintaining political stability and promoting the principle of \"one country, two systems,\" advancing peaceful reunification and diplomatic engagements.
Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC in 2012, there has been a strengthened emphasis on the development of the CPPCC, ensuring CPC leadership across various dimensions. Annual reviews of CPPCC reports by the CPC Central Committee have become a cornerstone in upholding the Party's comprehensive leadership.
The inclusion of the CPPCC's role in the Constitution of the People's Republic of China in 2018 and subsequent initiatives to enhance Party-building efforts underscore its enduring significance in China’s political framework.
