China Criticizes U.S. for Undermining Multilateral Global Trade System

China has released its 2024 Report on WTO Compliance, sharply criticizing the United States for actions that undermine the multilateral trading system. The report highlights a series of U.S. policies that violate WTO obligations, raising concerns over protectionism and disruption of global supply chains.

According to the report, the U.S. has been employing trade remedy measures such as anti-dumping and countervailing duties to shield its domestic industries, which China argues is a direct threat to free and fair global trade. Additionally, the U.S. has been blocking the appointment of new members to the WTO Appellate Body, effectively paralyzing its operations and hindering the resolution of international trade disputes.

China calls on the U.S. to rectify its policies, fulfill its WTO commitments, and adhere to international trade rules. The report emphasizes the importance of collective efforts to uphold the multilateral trading system and advance necessary WTO reforms to ensure a stable and equitable global trade environment.

Since 2017, the U.S. has taken measures that China believes undermine WTO rules, including practices that promote unilateralism and create double standards in industrial policies. These actions, according to China, not only disrupt global industrial and supply chains but also challenge the foundational principles of multilateralism that underpin international trade.
