US and UK Launch Air Strikes on Houthi in Red Sea Amid Rising Tensions

The U.S. has re-designated the Houthi militant group as a terrorist organization after months of attacks on ships in the Red Sea. Last week, the U.S. and the UK responded by launching air strikes on Houthi military installations, aiming to de-escalate the situation.

However, the Houthis have stated they won’t halt their attacks until the assaults on Palestinians in Gaza cease. This stance has raised questions about whether Western retaliation could further escalate the conflict. Experts are debating the potential outcomes and the role international bodies like the UN and other regional actors can play in restoring peace.

Prof. Glenn Diesen from the University of South-Eastern Norway highlighted the complexities of the conflict, while Foad Izadi from the University of Tehran emphasized the regional implications. Wang Jin of Northwest University of China and Prof. Robert Kelly from Pusan National University added perspectives on possible peacekeeping measures.
