China has unveiled a comprehensive set of guidelines aimed at accelerating the nation's green transformation. This ambitious plan, introduced by the Central Committee and the State Council, underscores China's commitment to leading the global green transition and meeting its carbon reduction targets.
Prioritizing sustainable development, Chinese decision-makers have crafted a strategic framework that sets clear targets for building a Beautiful China by 2035. This initiative is designed to boost high-quality economic growth while ensuring environmental preservation, paving the way for a prosperous and sustainable future.
Over the past decades, China has established a robust framework of plans and regulations addressing climate change, environmental protection, and disaster management at local, national, and global levels. The latest guidelines aim to enhance this foundation, promoting eco-civilizational and high-quality development by balancing economic growth with sustainability.
The roadmap outlined in the guidelines details significant advancements in key economic and social sectors by 2030. Goals include increasing the share of non-fossil energy to approximately 25 percent of total energy consumption, expanding pumped storage hydropower capacity beyond 120 million kilowatts, and growing the energy conservation and environmental protection sector to an estimated $2.1 trillion.
Additionally, by 2030, the plan targets the annual utilization of bulk solid waste to reach around 4.5 billion tons and aims to boost the output rate of main resources by approximately 45 percent compared to 2020 levels. The carbon emission intensity of commercial transport per unit of turnover is also expected to decrease by about 9.5 percent from 2020, further cementing China's trajectory towards a low-carbon economy.
Through these visionary guidelines, China is set to transform global climate governance and foster a global community with a shared future, demonstrating its unwavering dedication to sustainable and high-quality development.
