Profound forces and rapid changes are shaping today's world, with pressing challenges such as persistent poverty, protracted conflicts, and an intractable climate crisis still hindering global development. In the latest edition of Leaders Talk, Ajay Banga, president of the World Bank Group, shared his insights on China's evolving role in addressing these issues.
During his attendance at the China Development Forum on March 24-25, Banga visited a rural community in Hebei Province. There, he witnessed firsthand China's efforts to tackle climate change and promote rural revitalization. According to Banga, China has made a significant transition from being a recipient of World Bank grants to becoming one of the organization's largest donors.
Furthermore, Banga noted that China, once a primary beneficiary drawing from the World Bank's knowledge bank, is now contributing its successful experiences and lessons. These contributions are being widely applied in the Global South, enhancing global efforts towards sustainable development and reducing inequalities.
