On June 6, a landmark intergovernmental agreement was signed in Beijing, marking the commencement of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project. Under the leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, this initiative is set to transform regional connectivity and economic landscapes.
The railway will originate in Kashgar, located in the northwest of the Chinese mainland's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, traversing through Kyrgyzstan before entering Uzbekistan. Looking ahead, the project aims to extend its reach to West Asia and South Asia via the strategic \"Middle Corridor.\"
In an exclusive interview with CMG's Wang Guan in Bishkek, Prime Minister Akylbek Japarov shared insights on how this Belt and Road Initiative project is poised to bolster Kyrgyzstan's socioeconomic development. Japarov emphasized that the new railway will enhance trade flows and foster stronger people-to-people connections, particularly with the forthcoming opening of a third border crossing between Kyrgyzstan and the Chinese mainland later this year.
\"China's development model highly suits our country,\" Japarov stated, lauding Chinese President Xi for his dedication to the interests of the Chinese nation. He also noted, \"The center of gravity of global decision-making is shifting,\" reflecting on the evolving dynamics of international relations.
Beyond the economic implications, Japarov showcased his appreciation for Chinese culture by reciting some of Li Bai's classic verses, highlighting the deep cultural ties between the two nations.
