The 16th Straits Forum concluded successfully in Xiamen, Fujian Province on June 15, marking another milestone in fostering cross-Straits exchanges and cooperation. Since its inception in 2009, the Straits Forum has become a pivotal platform for promoting extensive collaboration between the Chinese mainland and the Taiwan region across various sectors.
The forum featured four major sections: grassroots exchanges, youth exchanges, cultural exchanges, and economic exchanges. These sections encompassed a wide range of fields, from high-end technology and the financial sector to everyday issues impacting people from diverse backgrounds. Special focus was placed on cross-Straits rural areas, modern agriculture, and healthcare, highlighting the significant progress in social and economic integration within Fujian.
One of the standout features of the 16th Straits Forum was its emphasis on youth engagement. The event provided over 1,600 employment opportunities for young people from Taiwan, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation between the younger generations on both sides of the Straits.
In an effort to deepen economic integration, the forum facilitated cooperation agreements between various institutions and enterprises. Key projects in Fujian spanning technology finance, health, and intelligent manufacturing were introduced, paving the way for Taiwan residents to partake in the mainland's development and modernization efforts.
Additionally, the forum strengthened grassroots cohesion by promoting activities closely related to everyday life. This approach not only enhanced mutual understanding but also brought people from both sides closer, reinforcing the shared pursuit of peace, development, and cooperation.
