IMF’s Georgieva Highlights Resilient Global Economy and China’s Role in Future Growth

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is optimistic about the post-COVID global economy, projecting growth levels exceeding three percent for both 2024 and 2025, despite ongoing geopolitical tensions impacting trade and capital flows.

In an exclusive edition of Leaders Talk, Wang Guan conversed with Kristalina Georgieva, the IMF Managing Director since 2019, who is set to commence her second five-year term on October 1, 2024.

Georgieva emphasized the challenges that economies, particularly in emerging and developing countries, face today, including low productivity growth and high debt levels. She highlighted China's steadfast support for the IMF and its continuous development momentum in areas such as the green economy, digital economy, and artificial intelligence. According to Georgieva, these digital and green transformations offer significant opportunities to boost productivity and enhance living standards globally.

Reflecting on global progress, Georgieva remarked, \"What we learn from China and pass on to other countries is this ability to take the long view,\" noting that this perspective is crucial not only in economic advancements but also in efforts like poverty eradication.
