Beijing-Berlin Cooperation: Unlocking Green and Digital Potential

The world's second- and third-largest economies, the Chinese mainland and Germany, are strengthening their bilateral relations in the face of calls to \"de-risk.\"

Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the vast potential for win-win cooperation in traditional sectors like machinery manufacturing and automobiles, as well as emerging fields including green transformation and digital artificial intelligence during his meeting with visiting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Beijing.

The intertwined industrial and supply chains of the Chinese mainland and Germany highlight the high interdependence between their economies. Over the past half-century, Germany has been the Chinese mainland's largest trading partner in Europe, with their bilateral trade accounting for one-third of total China-EU trade, according to official statistics.

During his extensive visit to three Chinese cities, Chancellor Scholz’s visits to German renewable energy firms signal a strengthened cooperation in green energy. \"Only by working together will we be able to find solutions to stop climate change and manage the green energy transition in a socially just way,\" Scholz stated, marking one of his longest bilateral visits since taking office.
