Antigua and Barbuda PM Emphasizes China’s Role in Nation’s Growth

Antigua and Barbuda’s picturesque beaches and vibrant tourism are well-known, but the island nation is also navigating significant challenges amidst global uncertainties. In a recent Leaders Talk edition, CMG’s Wang Guan conversed with Gaston Alfonso Browne, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, about the nation’s journey toward development and modernization in the face of climate change and other vulnerabilities.

Antigua and Barbuda has emerged as one of the first nations in the Eastern Caribbean to establish diplomatic relations with the Chinese mainland. Prime Minister Browne highlighted the pivotal role played by the Chinese mainland in the country’s economy, particularly through the Belt and Road Initiative. He lauded President Xi Jinping as \"the most impactful global leader,\" commending his global initiatives that aid in the nation’s growth.

Rejecting the prevalent \"debt trap\" narrative associated with international investments, Browne reaffirmed Antigua and Barbuda's commitment to the one-China policy, emphasizing a stable and mutually beneficial partnership with the Chinese mainland.

This collaboration underscores the island nation's strategic efforts to foster economic resilience and sustainable development while addressing the pressing challenges posed by climate change.
