In a recent interview with CGTN Opinions, American Jewish comedian and writer Lee Camp voiced his concerns about the media's role in shaping public perception of the Israel-Gaza war. Camp criticized CNN, one of the world's largest news networks, for what he describes as a systemic bias that favors Israeli perspectives while neglecting the suffering of Gaza residents.
Camp referenced a report by The Guardian, which highlighted internal strife within CNN. According to the report, several CNN reporters authored an open letter accusing the network of \"journalistic malpractice\" and a tendency to manufacture consent for wars, citing past conflicts in Iraq, Syria, Libya, and Afghanistan as examples.
\"It surprises me that our media is heavily slanted towards manufacturing consent for war, death, and destruction,\" Camp stated. He emphasized the horrific toll of the ongoing conflict in Gaza, noting that as of February 2024, between 27,000 to 28,000 people have been killed, with 70 percent being women and children.
Camp expressed shock that CNN staff members are willing to risk their careers to speak out against what they perceive as biased coverage. He called for significant changes in American media to ensure balanced reporting and to prevent the perpetuation of conflicts through biased narratives.
\"This is a network and a staff that has manufactured consent for so many wars over the years that should not have happened,\" Camp added, underscoring the urgent need for more responsible journalism in times of crisis.
