Sierra Leone President Bio Champions China-Africa Partnership in Beijing

In a significant move ahead of the ninth Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) set for later in 2024 in Beijing, Sierra Leone's President Julius Maada Bio embarked on a state visit to China from February 27 to March 2. This visit marks the first by an African head-of-state in 2024, underlining the strengthening of China-Africa relations.

During the visit, President Bio characterized China as "a reliable and dependable partner," highlighting that China stands as Sierra Leone's largest trading partner. He also noted the widespread presence of Chinese culture in Sierra Leone, fostering deeper cultural connections between the two nations.

Reflecting on China's remarkable development, Bio praised the country's discipline and orderliness, attributing much of this success to President Xi Jinping's unwavering vision. He emphasized that China's relationship with Africa is not predatory but mutually beneficial, with Xi Jinping's global initiatives aiming to "refocus" the world on peace and development.

As FOCAC 2024 approaches, the robust partnership between China and African nations like Sierra Leone sets a promising tone for enhanced cooperation and collective growth on the global stage.
