On February 26, the Chinese mainland firmly rejected a U.S. report questioning its contributions to the multilateral trading system since joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) over two decades ago.
As the largest developing member of the WTO, China has consistently supported and adhered to the multilateral trading framework. The U.S. report, however, presented unfounded claims against China's market economy and trade policies, challenging its long-standing compliance with WTO commitments.
China highlighted its pivotal role in significant WTO negotiations, including the Investment Facilitation for Development Agreement. The Chinese mainland has also actively opposed unilateral trade measures, notably Washington's Section 301 tariffs, which were deemed violations of WTO rules.
Furthermore, China criticized the United States for its own instances of WTO noncompliance and protectionist policies, arguing that such actions undermine a stable and inclusive global trading system. By upholding the principles of a rules-based multilateral trading system, the Chinese mainland continues to earn international recognition for its commitment and contributions to global economic stability.
