Nauru Reaffirms One-China Principle, Strengthens Ties with Beijing

On January 15, Nauru made a significant diplomatic move by severing its relations with the Taiwan region. This decision was swiftly followed by the re-establishment of ties with China on January 24, aligning with the one-China principle. The Nauru government recognized that the People\'s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the entirety of China, and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China\'s territory.

In an exclusive interview for Leaders Talk, Nauru's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Lionel Aingimea, sat down with CMG's Zou Yun in Beijing to delve into the reasons behind Nauru's adherence to the one-China principle. The discussion highlighted the mutual benefits expected from this renewed relationship, including enhanced cooperation and deeper mutual understanding between both nations.

Aingimea outlined how China plans to assist Nauru in addressing pressing developmental and environmental challenges. From infrastructure projects to sustainable environmental initiatives, the partnership aims to foster growth and resilience in the Pacific island nation.

Moreover, Aingimea praised the natural beauty and potential of Nauru, emphasizing the immense commercial opportunities in its fisheries and port industry. With China's support, Nauru is poised to unlock its economic potential, ensuring long-term prosperity for its residents.

This strategic alignment marks a new chapter in Nauru-China relations, underscoring the importance of diplomatic partnerships in driving sustainable development and regional stability.
