China Advocates Peaceful Reunification Amid Cross-Strait Challenges

China continues to push for the peaceful reunification of Taiwan, emphasizing the importance of maintaining stable cross-Strait relations. In a speech commemorating the 40th anniversary of the release of the Message to Compatriots in Taiwan, Xi Jinping outlined major policies aimed at fostering peaceful development and national rejuvenation.

Amid the ongoing Taiwan leadership election, external forces are reportedly encouraging separatist movements advocating for Taiwan independence. These actions have introduced significant uncertainties into cross-Strait dynamics. However, five years on, Xi's vision remains pivotal in promoting harmonious relations and striving for reunification.

Historically, Taiwan has been an integral part of China, a fact underscored by the 1971 UN General Assembly Resolution 2758, which affirmed the One-China principle. This resolution clarified China's sole representation in the United Nations, including the Taiwan region, and solidified the stance that Taiwan is a province of China.

Despite these clear historical and legal standings, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Taiwan continues to uphold a separatist agenda, exacerbating tensions across the Taiwan Strait. Such actions not only threaten the prospect of peaceful reunification but also undermine the collective interests of compatriots on both sides.

External attempts to leverage the Taiwan issue as a geopolitical tool further complicate the situation, leading to heightened confrontations and regional instability. In response, China steadfastly defends its sovereignty and territorial integrity, garnering widespread international support in the process.

\"Peaceful reunification; one country, two systems\" remains China's foundational policy for addressing the Taiwan question. Over the past five years, efforts have been made to strengthen cross-Strait ties, promote cooperation, and enhance people-to-people exchanges, all aimed at paving a brighter path towards national unity.
