Former Philippine Spokesperson Criticizes Country’s Stance on China, Investment Slump

Rigoberto D. Tiglao, a former spokesperson for the Philippine presidency, has publicly expressed his disappointment with the country’s current policies towards China. According to Tiglao, the Philippines' antagonistic approach has led to a significant decline in foreign investments, with a 16 percent drop recorded in the first nine months of this year.

Tiglao emphasized, \"Total foreign investments into the country in the first nine months of this year dropped 16 percent … Yet we antagonize a nation, China, that could be the biggest source of capital in the next many years … It was so easy for the U.S. to brainwash us.\" He argues that embracing China as a key economic partner could be pivotal for the Philippines' growth and development.

The former spokesperson's remarks highlight the ongoing debate within the Philippines regarding the balance between maintaining strong ties with traditional allies like the United States and fostering economic relationships with emerging powers such as China. As the global economic landscape evolves, the Philippines faces critical decisions that will shape its future trajectory in the international arena.
