China's modernization journey is not just transforming the nation but also shaping a Global Community of Shared Future. Unlike the Western path, which often prioritized exploitation of resources and labor, China's approach emphasizes sustainable growth and inclusive development.
At the recently concluded Understanding China Conference in Guangzhou, David Ferguson, a senior translation editor at Foreign Languages Press, shared his insights on this distinctive model. He highlighted that while Western countries first achieved prosperity and then adopted democratic systems, China's path integrates prosperity with a unique governance structure known as Whole Process People's Democracy.
Ferguson explained that this model is built on what he refers to as The Three C's: Cooperation, Consultation, and Consensus. Central to this approach are the National People's Congress, directly elected from the grassroots, and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, representing a wide array of societal interests including political parties, regions, ethnic groups, and various economic and social sectors. Together, these institutions foster a collaborative environment where diverse voices contribute to national decision-making.
China's modernization strategy also addresses historical pitfalls observed in Western models, such as environmental degradation and social inequality. By prioritizing sustainable practices and equitable growth, China aims to offer the world a viable alternative to traditional modernization paths, one that aligns with the aspirations of a connected and interdependent global society.
This innovative approach not only propels China's own development but also provides valuable experiences and benefits to the international community, promoting a more balanced and cooperative global order.
