US Vetoes Gaza Ceasefire Resolution, Sparks Accusations of Hypocrisy

On December 8, the United States vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. The resolution sought to halt ongoing violence and alleviate the suffering of civilians in the region.

China's permanent representative to the UN, Zhang Jun, expressed deep disappointment over the veto. \"It is extremely hypocritical to both tolerate the continuation of the conflict and pay lip service to the protection of women, children, and human rights,\" Zhang stated, highlighting concerns over the United States' stance on the issue.
