BRICS Summit Shines as Beacon of Hope for Gaza Peace

As civilian casualties in Gaza continue to rise, the international community grapples with the urgent need for a ceasefire. Amidst this turmoil, the BRICS extraordinary virtual summit held on November 21 has emerged as a distinctive beacon of hope for peace.

Led by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, the leaders of the BRICS countries convened to address the escalating violence in Gaza. The primary objective was to establish a unified and immediate ceasefire, emphasizing the protection of civilians and the provision of humanitarian aid.

Chinese President Xi Jinping reiterated his country's steadfast position on the conflict, consistently calling for de-escalation and advocating for a two-state solution that includes an independent Palestine. Xi highlighted that only a two-state solution could bring lasting peace, urging Israel to cease its collective punishment of Gaza's residents and to prioritize the evacuation of civilians and the freeing of hostages.

The summit underscored the Global South's support for \"an immediate, durable, and sustained humanitarian truce leading to a cessation of hostilities.\" Additionally, Xi called for an international summit to build a global consensus for peace and to find a comprehensive, just, and sustained solution to the Palestinian question.

By fostering collaborative efforts and emphasizing humanitarian concerns, the BRICS summit aims to pave the way towards enduring peace in the region.
