China’s CIIE 2023: A Global Trade Hub Celebrates BRI Decade

The 6th China International Import Expo (CIIE) has officially commenced in Shanghai, marking a significant milestone alongside the 10th anniversary of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Positioned as the centerpiece of the anniversary celebrations, the CIIE serves as a vital platform for fostering global trade and collaboration.

Trade has long been the engine of civilization's progress, driving the development and opening of new territories. Today, China continues this legacy by launching initiatives that prioritize global interests over narrow national gains, thereby building extensive networks of international partners.

The CIIE exemplifies this philosophy by creating a unified trade space where common interests prevail, minimizing unhealthy competition. Attendees from over 150 countries, regions, and international organizations converge at the expo, showcasing a diverse array of products and services. In 2022 alone, the event garnered over 1.7 million news mentions globally, ranking high in top search trends.

This year’s expo boasts participation from 289 of the world’s 500 largest enterprises, alongside approximately 1,500 small and medium-sized businesses. Visitors can explore more than 400 new products, technologies, and services across six distinct exhibition areas, including food and agriculture, automobiles, consumer goods, healthcare, technology, and trade in services.

The CIIE not only highlights China’s commitment to open trade but also reinforces its role as a central player in the global economy. By providing a dynamic and inclusive platform for international businesses, the expo continues to drive global economic integration and innovation.
