As the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2023, its profound impact on local communities around the world continues to be felt. One such story is that of Mrs. Akinboade Yetunde Abimbola, a retired headteacher from Igbesa village in Ogun State, Nigeria.
With the establishment of the Ogun Guangdong Free Trade Zone (OGFTZ), the lives of many in Igbesa have seen significant improvements. A shining example of this progress is the China-Nigeria Friendship Model School, founded in 2012. The school's emblem proudly bears the motto, \"Knowledge Is Pride,\" reflecting its mission to empower young minds through education.
Mrs. Akin dedicated over 12 years to the school, nurturing countless students and fostering a love for learning. Even after her retirement, her bond with the institution remained strong. During a recent visit, the new headteacher, Mrs. Gbemisola Olufunke Ajo, warmly welcomed her back, allowing Mrs. Akin to witness firsthand the well-organized campus and the exemplary behavior of the students.
The collaboration between China and Nigeria has planted the "seeds of knowledge" that continue to flourish in Igbesa. Each generation of teachers builds on this foundation, ensuring that the pursuit of education and personal betterment remains at the heart of the community.
Directed and co-produced by teams in China and Nigeria, this documentary series, Rising with Pride, highlights the human-centered stories that showcase the BRI's role in connecting people and enhancing lives. The series will also be broadcast by Liberia National Television (LNTV), reaching a wider audience eager to hear these inspiring narratives.
