19th Asian Games: China’s Commitment to Peace Through Sport on Full Display

The 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou is set to reaffirm China's dedication to fostering peace through the universal language of sport. More than 12,500 athletes from over 40 Asian nations have gathered in the vibrant city of Hangzhou, showcasing both athletic prowess and the beauty of this Chinese metropolis.

Since the opening ceremonies last month, Hangzhou has been a hub of vitality and elegance, providing world-class facilities for intense individual and team competitions. Sports enthusiasts have until October 8 to witness elite athletes striving for medals and personal glory, all while upholding the true spirit of sportsmanship.

China's prowess in hosting international sporting events is well-established, having successfully hosted three Asian Games, two Olympics, and a Universiade over the past 35 years. Each event has been marked by top-notch facilities and the warm hospitality of the Chinese people, even during the challenging times of the 2022 Winter Olympics amidst pandemic restrictions.

A testament to the enthusiasm of the Chinese populace, over 100 million people participated in a virtual torch relay, culminating in the digital lighting of the official Games torch—a first in sporting history.

Environmental sustainability has also been a priority, with more than 50 venues utilized for the Asian Games and the upcoming Asian Para Games. Impressively, only 12 new facilities were constructed, while the rest were renovated and reconstructed, demonstrating a commitment to environmental realities.

On the eve of the Games, Chinese President Xi Jinping addressed international guests, emphasizing sport's incredible potential to unite societies and highlighting Asia's role as a future epicenter for world peace. His message of inclusiveness resonated throughout the opening ceremonies, which he officially declared open.
