China and Germany Unite to Combat Trade Protectionism in New Financial Dialogue

The latest high-level financial dialogue between China and Germany, held in Frankfurt on October 1, 2023, marks a significant step in reinforcing global economic cooperation. Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and German Finance Minister Christian Lindner co-chaired the meeting, which resumed after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the dialogue, both nations issued a joint statement emphasizing their commitment to opposing trade protectionism and promoting an open world economy. A total of 25 consensuses were reached, highlighting key areas of cooperation.

Securing Global Supply Chains

Amid rising discussions in the European Union about \"decoupling and breaking links\" with China, the dialogue sent a positive signal for Sino-German cooperation. Both countries pledged to ensure the security of global supply chains, advocating for sustainable and inclusive growth of the world economy.

Challenging Trade Protectionism

China and Germany reaffirmed their dedication to multilateralism and creating a fair, non-discriminatory market environment. In an era where trade protectionism is resurging, their cooperation underscores the importance of free trade for mutual economic growth.

Despite existing challenges, China and Germany view each other as indispensable trading partners. China's status as Germany’s most important trading partner in the EU for the seventh consecutive year underscores the resilience of their economic ties.

This commitment is echoed by other European nations, such as France, which also seeks to maintain robust economic relations with China without resorting to decoupling strategies.
