Heavy snowfall and blizzards have severely disrupted daily life across 18 provinces in Türkiye, resulting in the closure of 2,173 roads, according to the state-run TRT reported on Sunday. The Metropolitan Municipality of eastern Van province has been particularly affected, with access to 19 neighborhoods and 35 hamlets cut off due to significant snow accumulation.
In the Ercis district of Van province, snow depths have reached up to 40 centimeters, posing substantial challenges for residents and emergency services. Street-clearing operations are currently underway to restore connectivity and ensure the safety of affected communities.
The widespread weather disruptions highlight the importance of resilient infrastructure and effective emergency response systems in mitigating the impact of severe weather events. As Türkiye navigates through these harsh winter conditions, efforts continue to restore normalcy and support those in isolated areas.
