Yangon's state-run authorities are taking proactive steps to control the movement of wild elephants and lessen the conflicts between humans and wildlife. According to a recent report by the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar, these efforts aim to address the growing challenges faced by residents in the Yangon region.
In the Hlegu and Taikkyi townships, located near the Bago Yoma forest area, a herd of approximately 30 wild elephants has been roaming freely, leading to increased interactions and occasional tensions with local communities. The government's initiatives include monitoring elephant movements, implementing safe corridors, and engaging with residents to promote coexistence.
