Australia Experiences Record-Breaking Hottest Spring

Australia has witnessed its hottest spring on record, with the national average temperature soaring over two degrees Celsius above the long-term baseline, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

New data reveals that between the start of September and the end of November, the national mean temperature reached 2.08°C above the 1961-1990 average. This surpasses the previous record set in 2020, which was 2.03°C above the long-term average.

The Bureau of Meteorology calculated the national mean temperature by analyzing data from 112 weather stations across Australia, with records dating back to 1910. The spring of 2024 is not only the hottest on record but is also at least one degree warmer on average than any spring in the entire 20th century.

These unprecedented temperatures highlight the ongoing challenges posed by climate change, impacting everything from agriculture to wildlife and increasing the urgency for sustainable solutions.
