Super Typhoon Man-yi Claims 9 Lives in the Philippines

The devastating Super Typhoon Man-yi struck the Philippines over the weekend, resulting in a tragic death toll of nine, according to the Philippines' Department of National Defense.

Ariel Nepomuceno, the Office of Civil Defense Administrator, emphasized that the number of fatalities could have been significantly higher if the government's proactive evacuation measures in disaster-prone areas had not been implemented before the typhoon made landfall.

Catanduanes, an island province in the Bicol region southeast of Manila, bore the brunt of Super Typhoon Man-yi. The province saw extensive damage, with around 4,000 houses damaged and 500 completely destroyed.

\"Super Typhoon Man-yi was at its height when it lashed the villages in Catanduanes,\" Nepomuceno stated, highlighting the intense impact of the storm on the affected communities.
