Spanish Research Vessel Diverts to Aid Flood Rescue Efforts

A Spanish research vessel, the Ramon Margalef, has shifted its mission from marine ecosystem studies to a critical rescue operation following devastating floods in Spain.

With a crew of 24, the vessel is equipped with advanced sensors and a submersible robot to map a staggering 36 square kilometers of the Mediterranean Sea, an area comparable to over 5,000 soccer fields. This extensive search aims to locate vehicles swept away by last week's catastrophic floods.

Authorities report that nearly 100 people remain officially missing, with expectations that the actual number could be higher, alongside more than 200 confirmed fatalities.

The Ramon Margalef's efforts could be pivotal in mapping sunken vehicles, potentially leading to the recovery of lives lost in the tragic events.
