Tropical Storm Trami Claims 82 Lives in the Philippines, May Reverse Course

Tropical Storm Trami has devastated the northwestern Philippines, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 82 lives. The storm has triggered severe landslides and extensive flooding, forcing authorities to deploy more rescue boats in a desperate effort to save thousands of terrified residents, some of whom found themselves stranded on their rooftops.

Batangas province, located south of Manila, has been particularly hard hit. A provincial police chief reported that 49 of the fatalities occurred there, bringing the overall death toll to at least 82. The relentless weather has left communities grappling with the aftermath, as rescue and recovery operations continue around the clock.

State forecasters have raised a rare possibility that Trami, the 11th and one of the deadliest storms to strike the Philippines this year, could make a U-turn next week. High-pressure winds in the South China Sea are pushing the storm back, potentially prolonging its impact on the region and posing additional threats to already vulnerable areas.
