A groundbreaking tomato-picking robot is capturing attention at the 31st China Yangling Agricultural Hi-tech Fair in Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province.
Equipped with artificial intelligence and multi-sensor technology, the robot employs a deep learning-based vision algorithm to guide its arm through identification, positioning, grabbing, and cutting tasks.
What sets this robot apart is its ability to distinguish tomatoes at various ripeness levels, selectively harvesting those ready for picking—a task traditionally demanding significant labor.
\"The kind of robot that picks fruits and vegetables consists of a walking system, vision system and picking execution system,\" explained Li Shenyang, one of the fair's organizers. \"It can adjust itself to different environments in the field. It can also acquire and process specific information related to the produce's size, color, shape, ripeness and picking location.\"
Li further added, \"Through reasonable path planning, it can complete various tasks such as grabbing and picking the fruit and placing it in baskets.\"
