Yunnan’s Rainforests Thrive: Government Initiatives Boost Biodiversity

Yunnan Province, located in southwest China, boasts some of the country's rare tropical rainforests. Renowned for its rich biodiversity, Yunnan has become a hotspot for wildlife enthusiasts and academic researchers alike.

Within Yunnan, Dehong Prefecture stands out with its lush mountains and fertile valleys. The region's mix of tropical and subtropical climates ensures abundant sunlight and warmth, creating an ideal sanctuary for a diverse range of wildlife.

In recent years, the Dehong Prefecture government has rolled out a series of biodiversity conservation initiatives. These efforts aim to establish a comprehensive biodiversity monitoring network and a stable spatial conservation framework for the area.

Looking ahead to 2025, the initiatives set ambitious targets: achieving a forest coverage rate of 72.5%, grassland vegetation coverage of 80%, wetland protection rate of 60%, and conservation rates of 92% for key protected wildlife species and 95% for key protected plant species.

Thanks to these concerted conservation efforts, animals of all sizes—from large mammals to tiny insects—now thrive in a well-protected environment, ensuring the continued vitality of Yunnan's unique ecosystems.
