Monstrous hurricanes Helene and Milton have wreaked unprecedented havoc across Florida and the Carolinas, with damages still accumulating. Government and private experts predict that these storms will join the infamous ranks of Katrina, Sandy, and Harvey as super costly $50-billion-plus disasters.

Adding to the tragedy is the fact that the majority of the damage – over 95% in Helene's case – remains uninsured, plunging victims into deeper financial hardship.
