Healthy Panda Cub Marks 100 Days at Guangzhou Zoo

A delightful milestone was celebrated at Chimelong Safari Park in Guangzhou City, south of the Chinese mainland’s Guangdong Province, as a 100-day-old panda cub thrived in good health. Born on June 18, this adorable female cub is the first newborn giant panda at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Pandas this year.

The zoo hosted a public event on Thursday to honor the cub's first 100 days. During the celebration, the conservation team conducted a thorough physical examination, revealing impressive growth from 178 grams at birth to over 5 kilograms. The cub also now has 13 teeth, a significant development for her age.

Chen Siming, a dedicated panda keeper, shared insights into the cub's daily routine. \"The cub is fed three to four times a day, each session lasting about five to ten minutes. She sleeps most of the time except when eating. We're gradually increasing her sun exposure, taking her outdoors around 8 a.m. every day for half an hour of sunbathing to promote the growth of her bones and muscles,\" Chen explained.

After the examination, the panda cub returned to her exhibition area to rest on a special \"100-family quilt.\" This patchwork blanket is crafted from \"blessing cloth\" donated by visitors, symbolizing the well-wishes of countless families in Cantonese culture.

Looking ahead, Chimelong Safari Park announced that the panda cub will be officially introduced to tourists during the upcoming National Day holiday. This event is highly anticipated, as visitors are eager to catch a glimpse of the flourishing newborn giant panda.
