The European Commission announced on Monday a significant financial support package totaling €119.7 million ($141.4 million) aimed at assisting farmers across five member states who have been severely impacted by adverse weather conditions this spring and summer.
Germany stands to receive the largest portion of the funds, with €46.5 million allocated to help its farmers recover from the extreme weather events. Italy follows with €37.4 million, Romania with €21.6 million, Bulgaria with €10.9 million, and Estonia with €3.3 million.
Janusz Wojciechowski, the European Commissioner for Agriculture, emphasized the EU's commitment to its agricultural communities. \"This proposal … represents a strong statement of EU solidarity with farmers in need … Our farmers do not stand alone in the fight against climate change,\" Wojciechowski stated.
The allocation of these funds underscores the European Union's dedication to supporting its farmers amidst the increasing challenges posed by climate change. By providing targeted financial assistance, the EU aims to ensure the resilience and sustainability of its agricultural sector, fostering a future where farmers can continue to thrive despite the unpredictable weather patterns.
