Typhoon Pulasan Makes Second Landfall in the Chinese Mainland

Typhoon Pulasan, the 14th typhoon of the year as counted by the Chinese meteorological authorities, made a second landfall in the country on Thursday.

The powerful storm, reaching maximum wind speeds of 23 meters per second near its center, struck the Fengxian District of Shanghai at approximately 9:45 p.m. after its initial landfall earlier the same day in Zhejiang Province, according to the Shanghai municipal meteorological observatory.

Pulasan marks the second typhoon to hit east China this year, following Typhoon Bebinca, the year's 13th typhoon, which made landfall in Shanghai's Lingang area of Pudong District on Monday.

As it moves inland, Pulasan's intensity is expected to gradually decrease, according to forecasts from the Zhejiang meteorological observatory.
