Super Typhoon Yagi, the 11th typhoon of the year, made landfall in Hainan Province of the Chinese mainland on Friday afternoon, according to the province's emergency management headquarters.
With winds exceeding 234 kilometers per hour, Yagi hit the coast of Wengtian Township in Wenchang City at 4:20 p.m., unleashing powerful forces across the region.
The typhoon has brought heavy rainfall to most of Hainan Island, causing severe rainstorms in certain townships and villages. The northern part of the province has experienced strong winds ranging from level 13 to 16, leading to significant damage and disruptions.
As a precaution, 570,000 residents have been relocated to safer areas amid the storm's impact. Additionally, some cities and counties are grappling with power outages due to the intense weather conditions.
Meteorological authorities forecast that Yagi will move toward the provincial capital, Haikou, as well as Chengmai and Lingao counties, before heading to the Beibu Gulf on Saturday morning. Preparations are underway to mitigate the typhoon's effects as it continues its path across the region.
