New York City has ramped up its efforts to combat the spread of West Nile virus by initiating widespread mosquito spraying in several neighborhoods.
Starting Monday night, trucks from the city's health department deployed pesticides in Central Park and Upper Manhattan neighborhoods from 8:30 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday. This proactive measure aims to reduce the mosquito population and curb the transmission of the virus.
According to the New York City Department of Health (DOH), the mass pesticide application will continue on Wednesday in parts of Brooklyn, including Bay Ridge and Coney Island. Residents in these areas are advised to take precautions to protect themselves from mosquito bites.
The city's health officials are closely monitoring the situation and will adjust their strategies as needed to ensure the safety and well-being of New Yorkers.
