Over 86,000 people in south China's Guangdong Province have been relocated as a preventive measure following heavy rainfall on Wednesday. The severe weather has led to the suspension of railway services and delays in flights, affecting daily commutes and travel plans.
A total of 65 townships and sub-districts in Guangdong experienced torrential rain between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., with precipitation exceeding 100 millimeters. The maximum accumulated rainfall reached 247.9 millimeters in a sub-district of Dongguan city, according to local meteorological and hydrological monitoring.
As of 11 a.m., some trains on the railway line connecting Guangzhou and Shenzhen, two megacities in China, and the line linking Guangzhou and Shantou have been suspended. Additionally, as of 8:38 p.m., 55 flights were delayed for more than an hour at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport.
The Guangdong meteorological observatory forecasts that the intensity of rainfall will weaken between Thursday and Friday, providing some relief to the affected regions.
