Spain and Portugal are battling severe wildfires as scorching temperatures continue to grip the Mediterranean region.
In Spain, a forest fire in Trabazos, Zamora Province, has already burned 200 hectares of land. Over 50 firefighters are on the scene, utilizing at least five helicopters and hydro airplanes in their efforts to control the blaze.
To bolster the response, a Spanish military emergency unit (UME) joined the firefighting efforts overnight. Authorities reported on Sunday morning that significant progress is being made, with expectations that evacuated residents will be able to return during the day.
The wildfire led to the evacuation of residents from the nearby town of Sejas de Aliste on Saturday and resulted in the closure of a national road, disrupting local traffic and daily routines.
