Heavy Rains in Zixing City Claim 50 Lives as Rescue Efforts Continue

Tragic heavy rains have devastated the city of Zixing in Hunan Province, central China, resulting in the loss of 50 lives and leaving 15 people missing, according to local authorities on Monday.

The relentless downpours, following the aftermath of Typhoon Gaemi, brought record-breaking rainfall that led to the collapse of homes in over 1,700 households and triggered more than 65,000 landslides and collapses throughout Zixing.

In response to the disaster, officials urgently relocated 23,419 residents to safety as the heavy rains wreaked havoc across the inland city.

Thankfully, critical infrastructure such as road access, power, communication, and water services have been largely restored in the affected areas. Disaster relief operations are currently underway to support the survivors and rebuild the community.
