Xi Jinping Inspires Volunteers to Enhance Water Conservation

In a heartfelt appeal ahead of China's second National Ecology Day, President Xi Jinping has called upon environmental volunteers to intensify their efforts in water conservation. This initiative is pivotal in advancing the modernization of harmony between humanity and nature.

Xi made these remarks in a reply letter addressed to the dedicated volunteers safeguarding the Danjiangkou Reservoir in Shiyan City, Hubei Province. The reservoir serves as the primary water source for the middle route of China's ambitious South-to-North Water Diversion Project, a critical infrastructure endeavor that began supplying water in 2014.

Over the past decade, significant strides have been made to protect the water quality of Danjiangkou. This success can be attributed to the active involvement of local officials, residents, and especially environmental volunteers. Recently, these volunteers reached out to Xi, highlighting their ongoing efforts and reaffirming their commitment to maintaining the reservoir's pristine condition.

In his reply, Xi lauded the volunteers' dedication, noting that their broad participation has resulted in clearer water, greener mountains, and a more beautiful environment in the reservoir area. He emphasized the strategic importance of the water diversion project for China's long-term development and the well-being of its people.

Xi urged continued vigilance in protecting the ecological environment of the water source, encouraging volunteers to inspire more individuals to consciously conserve water resources. He stressed that collective efforts are essential to building a beautiful China and contributing to the harmonious modernization between humanity and nature.

The President also extended his sincere greetings to environmental protection workers and volunteers nationwide, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to China's sustainable future.
