China Tops Global Carbon-Sink Rankings with 1.2 Billion Tonnes

China has emerged as the global leader in carbon-sink capacity, with its vast forests and grasslands absorbing over 1.2 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents annually. Guo Qingjun, an official from the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, announced this impressive achievement during a press conference on ecological conservation and restoration.

This announcement comes just a day before the country's newly established National Ecology Day on August 15, a move approved last year by China's top legislature. The day aims to boost public awareness and encourage action towards protecting the ecological environment.

China's commitment to enhancing its natural carbon sinks plays a crucial role in the fight against climate change, highlighting the country's dedication to sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
