China’s State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters on Thursday activated a Level-IV emergency response to address severe flooding in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. This action is part of the country’s four-tier flood control system, where Level I signifies the most urgent response.
Over the next four days, the Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM) anticipates torrential rain impacting several areas including Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, and northeastern regions. In addition to Inner Mongolia, the headquarters has maintained a Level-IV emergency response for flooding in Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Shaanxi, Gansu, and Ningxia. Hunan Province has been designated a Level-II emergency response.
In a swift mobilization effort, the MEM’s emergency rescue center has dispatched 405 personnel and 261 units of equipment to assist in flood control and rescue operations across Sichuan, Hunan, and Liaoning provinces. The rapid response aims to mitigate the impact of the heavy rains and support affected communities.
