Mozambique has begun administering the malaria vaccine in the central province of Zambezia, marking a significant step in the government's efforts to eradicate one of the country's leading causes of hospitalization and mortality.
The intramuscular vaccine is targeted at children between six and 11 months old, according to Armindo Tiago, the minister of health, during the launch event held in Quelimane, the capital of Zambezia. For those starting the vaccination after six months, the schedule includes the second and third doses four weeks apart, with the final dose administered six months later.
