Intense heat waves continue to sweep across Japan and South Korea, posing significant health risks to residents. In Japan, the mercury in Kyushu soared close to 40 degrees Celsius on Sunday, marking one of the hottest temperatures of the year.
Wide areas of western and eastern Japan are bracing for daytime temperatures surpassing 35 degrees Celsius, leading to heatstroke alerts being issued in 37 prefectures. This prolonged heatwave is not only uncomfortable but also poses serious health challenges, especially for vulnerable populations.
Forecasts indicate that the extreme heat will persist through the night, with Kurume in Fukuoka expecting a maximum of 39 degrees Celsius. Other regions such as Saga and Kumamoto are also anticipating high temperatures of up to 38 degrees Celsius, compounding the urgency for effective heat management and public health measures.
