Southern Xinjiang’s First High-Altitude Wind Farm Powers the Future

Southern Xinjiang has witnessed a significant leap in renewable energy with the inauguration of its first wind power project. Located in Wuqia County on the Pamir Plateau, this wind farm sits at an impressive average altitude of 3,100 meters, making it the westernmost wind farm in the Chinese mainland.

The project marks a pivotal advancement in high-altitude wind energy technology, setting a benchmark for future developments in the region. The initial phase includes 20 turbines, which are projected to generate approximately 270 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually. This clean energy initiative not only supplies power to the local area but also offers invaluable insights into constructing wind farms in challenging, low-wind-speed environments.

Once fully operational, the wind farm will expand to 38 turbines, boasting a total capacity of 200,000 kilowatts. This expansion underscores the region's commitment to sustainable energy solutions and serves as a model for other high-altitude projects worldwide.
