China Activates Level-IV Emergency Response Amid Severe Floods in Heilongjiang and Chongqing

China has activated a Level-IV emergency response to address severe flooding in the northeast’s Heilongjiang Province. The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters made the declaration on Wednesday as heavy to torrential rains are forecasted in the coming days, heightening the risk of floods and geological disasters in the region.

In addition to Heilongjiang, the Ministry of Emergency Management has also initiated a Level-IV emergency response for geological disasters in southwest China's Chongqing. This swift action underscores the country's robust four-tier emergency response system for flood control, where Level I represents the most urgent situations.

From Monday to Tuesday, national comprehensive firefighting and rescue teams have been actively involved in 152 flood control and rescue operations. Their efforts have successfully rescued and evacuated 2,837 individuals affected by the severe weather conditions.

As China faces these challenging weather patterns, the coordinated response aims to mitigate the impact of the floods and ensure the safety of residents in the affected areas.
