China is currently facing intense rainfall that has led to significant flooding, particularly in Xiangtan County of Hunan Province. Over the past two days, the Juanshui River has experienced three dike breaches, resulting in submerged streets and the evacuation of numerous residents.
One of the most severe breaches occurred in Hekou Town on Monday at 1:40 p.m., where more than 30 meters of the dike gave way. This breach has inundated a large number of homes and agricultural fields, causing widespread disruption. In response, helicopters have been deployed to assist rescuers in locating and evacuating those trapped by the rising waters.
Huang Xi, a dedicated rescuer at the scene, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, \"We are accelerating our search efforts to ensure that no one is left behind.\" The community's resilience was further highlighted by the rescue of Liu De'an, a 67-year-old resident with limited mobility. Reflecting on the ordeal, Liu shared, \"I watched the water rise quickly, flooding the first floor of my house. I was terrified. Thankfully, they arrived just in time and saved me.\"
The Juanshui River, a major tributary of the Yangtze River, has been experiencing record-breaking floods following the impact of Typhoon Gaemi. Authorities are working tirelessly to manage the floodwaters and mitigate further damage, ensuring the safety and recovery of the affected communities.
